This applies only when you have an existing Gen 2 Tesla Wall Connector and are looking to install a second Gen 2 Tesla Wall Connector that will share power with the already installed device. If you would like to install a Gen 3 Tesla Wall Connector (even if it is power sharing) or are looking to install two chargers at the same time, please select New Installation.

We will not swap out a hardwired device with a NEMA receptacle. We can replace an existing NEMA receptacle with a hardwired charger, but not the other way around. We can also replace like-for-like charger types. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.

Building & Safety inspectors are very abruptly enforcing a new code that requires GFCI protection for any NEMA installation. What this means is that we have to bring a different type of breaker and that comes at an additional cost of $350 OR $1000 depending on what type of panel you have if you want this job done to code.

Additionally, the GFCI installation will interrupt your vehicle from charging more frequently and the circuit breaker will trip somewhat often. It would really be in your best interest to install a hardwired charger instead of a NEMA outlet.

If you decide you'd like to stick with the NEMA, we will be happy to do that but we cannot consider it a recall covered under our warranty if your GFCI breaker(s) trip or if at some point in the future you decide you'd like us to replace the GFCI breaker(s) for a standard one.

You will have to purchase the Wall Charger before the installation date or the charging adapter if you go with the NEMA receptacle. The Wall Charger does not come as part of your car purchase. You must purchase this item separately and it's a good idea before purchasing to check with a certified electrician to make sure your home has enough power available to support this charger. The Electric Connection is a Tesla Certified installer and we will be happy to help you determine if your home has the power needed to support the wall charger.

This is a NEMA 1450 receptacle

Most Tesla owners choose to install a NEMA 1450 receptacle because they can easily charge their Tesla each night to meet their daily mileage requirements. The maximum amount of miles per charging hour using the NEMA 1450 receptacle are:

Model X – 20 miles per Hr.
Model S – 23 miles per Hr.
Model 3 – 30 miles per Hr.
Model Y – 29 miles per Hr.

You will have to purchase the Wall Connector directly from Tesla ($500) or the charging adapter if you go with the NEMA 1450 ($45). If installing a NEMA receptacle outdoors, a raintight cover ($185) will also need to be added. If installing a plugin Wall Connector, a mounting fee will be assessed ($95).

Model X: 30 miles
Model S: 34 miles
Model 3: 44 miles
Model Y: 42 miles

Mid-range Model 3 vehicles will give you a maximum of up to 30 miles of driving per hour of charging regardless of what amperage you install at.

Disclaimer: Finish patching and painting are excluded from our services.

Running electrical wiring may require us to cut small holes in walls, ceilings or at exterior walls. We will notify you prior to doing so and The Electric Connection will provide rough patching.

Rough Patching means that we will cover any holes we have created by screwing back the same piece of drywall we removed in order to perform our work. We will apply material to cover the screws, but we will not apply texture nor sanding, which is the Final Patching done by the painter when "prepping" the walls and ceiling before painting.
